Facelift

A facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that is also referred to as a rhytidectomy. It is ideal for men and women who are unhappy with skin sagging along the jawline (jowls) and deep creases in other parts of the face. A facelift will smooth away creases, make the facial skin firmed and create an appearance that is refreshed and more youthful.

Skin laxity is a major concern for many people, and a facelift is an ideal solution if you are relatively healthy. While patients are generally above 40 years old, a facelift can be performed on an adult patient of any age as soon as the signs of aging appear, as long as specific criteria is met as determined during an appointment with Dr. Turley.

If you have:

saggy skin, muscles, and fat in the face and neck areas
excess skin and fat on the neck that you find undesirable
jowls, in the form of saggy skin and fat along the jaw line
creases along the nose, mouth, and chin

talk to Dr. Turley about a facelift. You’ll find out if the procedure can fix your aesthetic concerns.

General Facelift Procedure
Facelift surgery generally involves targeting facial and neck skin by contracting and realigning it. Excess fat deposits may also be removed if necessary. While there are many techniques that may be applied, generally it follows this type of procedure: small incisions are places just inside the hairline, in a discreet location. Following the contour of the face in front of the ears, the incisions continue underneath the earlobes and around behind to the lower scalp. Then, Dr. Turley will separate tissue and fat deposits and remove excess skin. The skin is tightened and the incisions are then closed (clips or staples may be place at the hairline), leaving the face tauter and rejuvenated in appearance. If the neck is also targeted, the same techniques are applied after an incision is made under the chin.

A facelift is a more intensive cosmetic surgical procedure that may last several hours, depending on your goals and physiology, as well as whether other procedures are performed at the same time.

A facelift may be performed at the same time as another cosmetic surgical procedure. Please speak to Dr. Turley to find out how to achieve total rejuvenation!

Recovery Following Facelift Surgery
A complete list of post-operative instructions will be given to you. Follow them closely to help your body recovery quickly and properly. You’ll most likely require plenty of rest and limit your movement. Bandages, fitted on the face immediately following surgery, will help the recovery process and reduce swelling. Within a week, any stitches, clips or staples are typically removed. Any discomfort experienced following surgery can be minimized with prescribed oral medication. Complications are rare, and can be minimized by following post-operative care instructions carefully.
