General Cosmetic Ear Surgery Procedure
Ear surgery is commonly performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia for children and local for adults. Most patients choose to undergo surgery to correct protrusion, so that the ear can be placed closer to the head. This type of otoplasty typically involves an incision placed in the crease behind the ear to allow cartilage to be reshaped. The incision is then closed and dressed. Depending on the extent of surgery, cosmetic ear surgery takes anywhere from 1 to 2 hours.

Recovery From Cosmetic Ear Surgery
A complete list of post-operative instructions will be given to you. Follow them closely to help your body recovery quickly and properly. You’ll most likely require plenty of rest and limit your movement. Dressings will help the recovery process, and will be in the form of large bandages wrapped around the head to secure the ears in place. These dressings are typically removed within a week so that they may replaced with smaller dressings. Any discomfort experienced following surgery can be minimized with prescribed oral medication. Complications are rare, and can be minimized by following post-operative care instructions carefully.
