Breast Augmentation
Mammoplasty is the technical term for breast augmentation, a surgical procedure that accentuates the size andshape of a woman’s breasts to achieve a desirable overall body contour. Breast augmentation tends to an extremely rewarding procedure for women who are unhappy with the size of their breasts, making them feel happier and more self-confident. Women who seek breast augmentation tend to be individuals who may naturally have smaller breasts, have lost volume due to pregnancy or nursing, or have had breast reconstruction but desire more volume.

General Breast Augmentation Surgery
The breast augmentation procedure takes place on an outpatient basis at Credit Valley Hospital Mississauga. The patient may be placed under general anesthesia. The surgery involves incisions to allow for the accurate placement of the breast implant. Incisions may be placed in the armpit, in the belly button, around a portion of the areola, or within the fold of the breast, where it meets the body. Your preferred incision placement will be decided upon during the initial consultative process with Dr. Turley.
Once the incision is made, a pocket is formed to allow for implant insertion, which may be beneath the chest wall muscle or under the breast tissue. The implant may be a silicone shell filled with saline or cohesive gel silicone.
The entire breast augmentation surgical procedure can last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.
Recovery Following Mammoplasty
A complete list of post-operative instructions will be given to you. Follow them closely to help your body recovery quickly and properly. You’ll most likely require plenty of rest and limit your movement. Dressings, applied immediately following surgery, will help the recovery process. You may also need to wear a surgical bra to maintain support. Any discomfort experienced following surgery can be minimized with prescribed oral medication. Complications are rare, and can be minimized by following post-operative care instructions carefully.
Please note that breast augmentation cannot move the breasts closer or lift drooping breasts. The procedure only augments the size of the breasts and enhance their shape.
